The first wagon road into Larder City.
It was mainly a winter road.
Parts of this trail would eventually become Highway 624.

Located on Rocky Shoreline east of the Sand Beach named after Tom Pearl.
Note the cast iron stoves, which weighed over 200 lbs each.
They were portaged by canoe up the Larder River from Wendigo Lake.
A townsite was surveyed at Pearl Beach but never opened.

It was built by J.P. McLaughlin and his partner Guilfoyle in about 1910.
Mrs. Susan Sheldon acquired the hotel and managed it.
J.P. McLaughlin became the first mayor of Timmins.
Guilfoyle would follow the Silver Rush into Elk Lake, and the Gowganda areas.

It opened in 1921; twenty-nine students attended in 1925.
There would subsequently be 3 other public schools built in Larder Lake,
plus a Catholic separate school.
